New Trail from Westside Trail to Sexton Mountain Dr / Un sendero nuevo desde Westside Trail hasta Sexton Mountain Dr
April 21, 2021
From spring to fall of 2021, THPRD will be planning a new .15-mile off-street trail connecting from the Westside Trail to SW Sexton Mountain Dr near Sexton Mountain Elementary School.
This project will design and develop a new .15 mile off‐street trail connecting from the area west SW 155th Ave and SW Sexton Mountain Ave to the Westside Trail. THPRD anticipates this trail to be planned as a 6‐foot‐wide soft surface trail. The trail will mainly support local community members in accessing the Westside Trail, nearby parks, Sexton Mountain Elementary School, and other areas of the neighborhood.
Community involvement is a vital part of this planning and design process, and THPRD will continuously engage community members throughout the project. The natural area immediately south of Sexton Mountain Elementary School was purchased as part of THPRD’s 2008 bond measure, and this trail connection is a required condition of that purchase.

Frequently
Asked Questions
Below you’ll find answers to the questions we get asked the most about this project.
How will I get news and updates about the project?
Throughout the process, we will continue to post updates and ways to get involved on this webpage. We send public meeting and construction
notices to nearby and adjacent community members for all our development projects. If you would like to receive updates and notices about
this project, please join the project’s email list.
How was the trail route chosen?
THPRD purchased the 6.01 acre natural area southwest of Sexton
Mountain Elementary School from the City of Beaverton as part of
THPRD’s 2008 bond measure. Previous to the sale, the City of
Beaverton identified this trail section as a necessary connection for
the area. As a result, THPRD is required to develop this trail section
as a part of the sale agreement with the City of Beaverton. This
trail section is also outlined as a future trail development in our
THPRD Trails Functional Plan.
Once complete, this trail section will connect the residential
neighbors to recreational activities, families to Sexton Mountain
Elementary School, and local commuters to places of work. THPRD
will continue to work with local jurisdictional partners and
community members to successfully develop this new trail
segment.
Why does THPRD purchase property if they are not yet ready
to develop it into a park?
THPRD makes an effort to purchase property when it becomes
available in new housing development areas and in established
housing areas that are underserved. (Level of service is defined in
THPRD’s Parks Functional Plan.) Even if THPRD does not have the
funds to fully develop the property, the advanced purchase helps
ensure that THPRD can serve patrons in that area in the future.
