West Sylvan Park play equipment survey
Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is seeking public feedback from visitors to West Sylvan Park, a site (adjacent to West Sylvan Middle School) that is owned by Portland Public Schools and maintained by THPRD.
Drainage problems have created a hazard on the wood-chip surfacing at the site; THPRD has closed the play equipment as a proactive safety measure. Without significant investment, the play area will remain closed.
The play equipment, installed in 1998, is nearing the end of its lifecycle. Drainage and safety improvements, which would allow the site to be used for 2-3 more years, would cost about $10,000. Because THPRD does not own this property, making a decision to replace the equipment (which would exceed $90,000 with ADA improvements) presents challenges.
We are currently gathering information that will help us determine how to proceed. This information could also inform our plan for a nearby property (just under a half-mile east of West Sylvan Park) that is slated to be developed as a neighborhood park in 4-5 years.
To help us make an informed decision, we’d love your input. Please take this brief survey by April 25: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/westsylvan
