The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District has completed the acquisition of two properties in Aloha to be used for future parks.
Both deals closed earlier this month. Funding was provided by THPRD’s 2008 voter-approved bond measure, which is designed to upgrade or expand parks and recreational facilities, develop new trails and trail connections, add athletic fields, and preserve natural areas. About two-thirds of the 130 scheduled projects have been completed.
The first site, spanning 0.89 acres, is located next to Mountain View Middle School and will become part of a 20-acre community park that THPRD is scheduled to begin building in 2016. Sales price was $509,000.
“The addition of this site allows for more frontage on SW 170th Avenue, which will create better access to the future park,” said Aisha Willits, THPRD director of Planning.
The park is generically named Southwest Quadrant Community Park for now and results from a major agreement with the Beaverton School District for shared facilities. The site will include sports fields, play equipment, a perimeter trail, picnic facilities, and Oregon’s first “Champions Too” sports field for special needs athletes.
THPRD this month also acquired three parcels of land totaling 2.56 acres in Aloha northwest of 185th and the Tualatin Valley Highway. Sales price was $700,000.
“This is a flat, partially wooded site that will one day be developed as a neighborhood park,” Willits explained. “We’re currently working to secure funding and establish a schedule to develop it.”
