Third annual Harvest Bazaar returns to Stuhr Center Sept. 6-7
September 04, 2013
Like goody-starved kids descending on a candy store, shoppers of all ages will delight in a broad array of treasures, must-haves, antiques, clothing and collectibles at the Elsie Stuhr Center’s 37th annual Harvest Bazaar.
The bazaar runs Friday, Sept. 6, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Saturday, Sept. 7, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
All rooms at the Stuhr Center (5550 SW Hall Blvd, Beaverton) will again be transformed into a gargantuan rummage sale with an abundance of riches for all interests and age groups.
Proceeds from the center’s largest fundraiser of the year will benefit the Stuhr Center Advisory Committee, which funds facility improvements and sustains and expands fitness programs for seniors.
“The center prepares for this huge event for weeks while committed volunteers diligently sort and price the items and get them ready to sell,” said Gail DuBois, program coordinator at the Stuhr Center. “We have seen phenomenal things come in – jewelry, antiques, vintage clothing, home goods, and collectibles you just won’t find elsewhere. We have something for everyone.”
In addition to offering a shopper’s paradise, the center will provide baked goods and beverages from the Farm House Café. A hamburger barbecue will be served each day from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., accompanied by live music. Cost is $6 per person.
The Elsie Stuhr Center, owned and operated by the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District, serves the “55+ and better” crowd. According to government data on
aging, it’s a population that is burgeoning. THPRD’s mission is to raise awareness of how important continued fitness is for this growing set of 45-64-year-olds. Life expectancy of this group keeps getting longer and with it should go a continued sense of health and well-being. The funds raised at the bazaar ensure that the advisory committee will continue to grow its programs towards that end.
