2008 Bond Measure, News Release, Parks
A major redevelopment project at Cedar Mill Park has been substantially completed. The park, located at 10385 NW Cornell Road, reopened to the public on Monday, Nov. 17.
The 5-acre park had been closed since early June for construction. Since then, Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District staff and contractors have been busy renovating the park with new tennis courts, sports fields, trails and play equipment.
The project included the redevelopment of the baseball/multipurpose sports field at the adjacent Cedar Mill Elementary School. The work followed an agreement with the Beaverton School District in 2013 for shared use of the school property.
The soccer field at Cedar Mill Park and the baseball/multipurpose field on school property will open in the spring after the new grass matures. In addition, the new tennis courts will open as soon as striping and installation of nets is complete.
“We’re really pleased with how the park turned out,” said Doug Menke, THPRD general manager. “It looks good, and we’re confident our residents will enjoy using all the new amenities for years to come.”
Another new amenity is an asphalt path leading from the park to 106th and 107th Avenues, which children in the neighborhood can use to walk to the elementary school. The path also improves access to THPRD’s Jackie Husen Park and Jordan Woods Natural Area.
The project was designed with significant community input and included enhancements to natural areas of the park by THPRD’s Natural Resources staff. Their work will continue with the planting of additional native trees and shrubs.
Both the park redevelopment and natural resource enhancements were funded through THPRD’s 2008 voter-approved bond measure, which is designed to preserve natural areas, develop new trails and trail connections, add athletic fields, and upgrade or expand parks and recreational facilities across the district. About two-thirds of the 130 scheduled projects have been completed.
