Feedback sought on Athletic Facilities functional plan
THPRD is seeking public feedback on the Athletic Facilities functional plan, which is scheduled to be presented to the Board of Directors for adoption at the regular meeting on March 7.
Public Meetings:
The public is invited to speak with THPRD staff and provide feedback regarding the plan at two public meetings:
- Wed., Feb 10: 7 pm at Dryland Aquatic Training Center
- Tue., Feb. 16: 6 pm, Fanno Creek Service Center
The Feb. 16 meeting will be held with the Programs and Events Advisory Committee and the Parks and Facilities Advisory Committee.
Athletic Facilities functional plan
This plan was developed from recommendations in the 2013 Comprehensive Plan Update, which outlines support of these facilities as one of eight umbrella goals.
Goal 2: Provide quality sports and recreation facilities and programs for Park District residents and workers of all ages, cultural backgrounds, abilities, and income levels.
One specific recommendation was an analysis of field capacities:
“Conduct a field hour capacity analysis for peak times. Compare what is scheduled to what is actually used. Also analyze percent of players who are District versus non‐District residents. Prioritize usage and convert high‐use, District‐owned fields into synthetic turf and/or lighted fields where an opportunity or demand exists.”
The Athletic Facilities Functional Plan includes outdoor recreational activities - bocce, disc golf, skate parks, etc. - as well as courts and fields, establishing priorities for usage, planning and development.
This plan is one of five functional plans (Parks, Natural Areas, Trails, and Programs) established in conjunction with the Comprehensive Plan.
Public comment will take place through February; those unable to attend public meetings may provide direct feedback to Scott Brucker, Superintendent of Sports.
