Community event to dedicate new Ridgewood View Park
The release below was distributed yesterday by Tualatin Valley Water District regarding the reopening of Ridgewood View Park in Cedar Hills. Join us at the Sept. 20 celebration!
BEAVERTON, OR. -- Tualatin Valley Water District (TVWD) and Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) invite the public to celebrate the completion of a new reservoir and pump station and the reopening of an improved Ridgewood View Park. The event will be held on Tuesday, September 20 from 5-7 p.m. and features pump station tours, a dedication ceremony, sports demonstrations, kids activities and food catered by neighborhood Hawaiian café 808 Grinds.
The two-year, $30 million construction project closed the park to the public while a large eight million gallon water reservoir and pump station was constructed, replacing nearby older facilities. The unique, five-sided reservoir overlooking Highway 217 was designed to take full advantage of the constrained site. The infrastructure is built to withstand a Cascadia subduction zone earthquake and provides expanded water storage and distribution to West Hills customers, including Providence St. Vincent Medical Center.
The upgraded 6.72-acre Ridgewood View Park features new tennis and pickleball courts atop the reservoir. A new bocce court is available for enthusiasts of this increasingly popular Italian ball sport. Other park amenities include an open grassy area, picnic shelter, parking, seasonal portable toilet and improved trail system through the woods that connect to Ridgewood Elementary School to the south. An elaborate play structure with a spongy artificial turf as well as a natural play area with boulders and logs salvaged from the construction should prove popular with children.
The entire Ridgewood View project was recently awarded a Gold Envision rating by the Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure (ISI) for its sustainable design and construction. It is the first facility of its kind to receive an ISI Envision award, and is also the first Envision award for Oregon.
“We hope the community, especially the neighbors of the park, will come out and join us on September 20 to celebrate this great new facility,” said Alex Cousins, TVWD spokesman. “The project was designed with a lot of public involvement, so this really is a critical community asset that also serves many different purposes.”
“The redeveloped park gives the neighborhood a wider variety of recreational amenities,” added Bob Wayt, spokesman for THPRD. “We hope the neighbors agree when they see it that the wait was worth it.”
