Aquatic Center construction to affect HMT Complex traffic
A major project to replace the original, 38-year-old roof at the Tualatin Hills Aquatic Center (part of the Howard M. Terpenning Recreation Complex) began this week. This project is scheduled to take about four months to complete.
Replacing a roof is no easy chore, especially when that roof is 196 feet long. Construction crews are using a substantial portion of Parking Lot B (west of the Aquatic Center) to stage their trucks and equipment for the duration of the project.
This project will have the biggest impact on visitors who enter the complex via NW Schendel Ave.
During most of this period, two-way traffic will continue through Parking Lot B, though only a handful of parking spots will be available at the southernmost end of the lot. Parking in Lot A (nearest the Tennis Center), and Lots C & D (nearest the Athletic Center) will not be directly affected, but traffic throughout the complex may be slowed by this construction. Please plan accordingly.
Additionally, for about three weeks this fall (dates TBD), this project will require Lot B to be closed to through traffic. At that time, direct access to Lot A (including the Tennis Center, the Administration Office and other amenities at the south end of the complex) will be accessible to vehicle traffic only via Walker Rd. (westbound only) and 158th Ave. (northbound only)
Thanks for your patience while we make these much-needed improvements.
