New Waterhouse play equipment provides fun for families
October 11, 2013
Families with children in the Waterhouse area of west Beaverton have a new reason to get outside and play.
The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District has installed new playground equipment in the Schlottmann Creek Greenway, which is near NW Foxborough Circle, 158th Avenue, Waterhouse Lake and the Hunter's Run apartment complex.
Nestled among trees, the equipment replaces an outdated playground set that had existed there since 1990. It features a colorful apparatus in the shape of a beaver den that can be used for climbing, swinging and sliding.
Other new amenities include a large swing set and durable plastic toys for children to sit on and rock or spin.
“These new play structures are fun for children and inspire imaginative play,” said Doug Menke, THPRD general manager. “And because they bring families together through recreation, they improve quality of life for the whole neighborhood.”
The playground also offers picnic tables, large, mature shade trees, and ADA access to a picnic table, which is also ADA-compliant.
The project is the last of 11 separate play equipment upgrades at Beaverton-area parks funded by THPRD’s 2008 voter-approved bond measure. In addition to the Schlottmann Creek Greenway project, the district replaced playground sets at Arnold, Channing Heights, Harman Swim Center, Lawndale, Lost, Murrayhill, Summercrest, and Terra Linda Parks (nine replacements overall). In the other two bond projects, swing sets were replaced at George Otten and Roxbury Parks.
