Pam's Party for Oregon Food Bank returns to Beaverton Swim Center Nov. 17
November 06, 2012
“Pam’s Party for Women Who Love Water and the Oregon Food Bank,” returns to the Beaverton Swim Center on Saturday, Nov. 17, from 4-6 p.m.
This free event, for women of all ages, includes shallow and deep-water aerobics, homemade desserts, and women committed to raising money for a good cause.
Women interested in participating should RSVP by calling Pam Gross (503/644-5997) or the Beaverton Swim Center (503/629-6312). Beaverton Swim Center is owned and operated by the Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District. It is located at 12850 SW 3rd Street, next to Beaverton High School.
Pam’s Party has become a THPRD fundraising success story. Last year’s 5th annual event, attended by about 50 charitable souls, raised $2,450 in cash donations, a remarkable total for an event of its size. Toys and food also were donated.
Gross, a deep-water aerobics patron, established the event in 2007 as a way to celebrate her 70th birthday with friends at the pool while “giving back” by collecting food and toy donations.
“I love to have fun,” Gross explained. “Having fun with a bunch of wonderful women is more fun than anything I can think of, unless it's a bunch of wonderful women in a swimming pool. Throw in a way to help others and…wow! What better way to celebrate a birthday every year?”
THPRD donates the use of the facility and aerobics instructors, Pam’s friend Marj Wilson brings “Marj’s Most Memorable Cake,” and Beaverton Swim Center Program Coordinator Lori Leach makes punch. Everyone, it seems, enjoys the fitness, friendship, good food and the opportunity to help a good cause – except men, whose participation is limited to writing checks for Oregon Food Bank.
Pam’s Party is a precursor to the holiday giving season that continues with THPRD’s food and toy drive, Nov. 23 – Dec. 13 at THPRD facilities. For more information on THPRD's holiday events, visit www.thprd.org.
Formed in 1955, THPRD is the largest special park district in Oregon, spanning about 50 square miles and serving more than 220,000 residents in the greater Beaverton area. The district provides year-round recreational opportunities for people of all ages and abilities. Offerings include thousands of widely diverse classes, 90 park sites with active recreational amenities, 60 miles of trails, eight swim centers, six recreation centers, and 1,400 acres of natural areas.
