Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District

Adopt-A-Park

The Adopt-A-Park (Adopt-A-Plot for individuals) program offers district residents and neighborhood groups the opportunity to provide tender loving care for the park of their choice. Participants can remove invasive plants and replant with native vegetation, clean up litter, perform wildlife surveys, or do any number of other activities in THPRD parks. This program is especially suited to individuals, famillies, businesses and community groups who want a project that creates a sense of stewardship and ownership within their community.

Current sites available for adoption include:

  • Tualatin Hills Nature Park Interpretive Center: If you like to get your hands dirty, garden with native plants and hang out at the Tualatin Hills Nature Park, consider adopting a portion fo the native plant garden that wraps around the Nature Park Interpretive Center. Volunteers must commit to adopting and maintaining the plot for a minimum of one year.
  • Hyland Forest Park: This gem of a park is approximately 30-acres of natural area located in the South Beaverton neighborhoods. The habitat is in relatively good condition, but we still need volunteers to help manage English ivy, Himlayan blackberry or traveler's joy throughout the natural areas. This park makes a great adoption site for individuals or groups who would like to adopt a small chunk of the natural areas.
  • Bluffs Park: Tucked away in Cedar Mill, Bluffs Park is a 5.5 acre natural area consisting of forested habitat. The habitat is ecologically healthy with low levels of invasive plant species. To maintain this sensitive habitat, The Natural Resources Department is looking for volunteers interested in removing invasive plants in the park. This park makes a great adoption site for individuals or groups who would like to restore a small neighborhood natural area.
  • Morrison Woods: Morrison Woods is a natural area park located in the Sexton Mountain area. The habitat consists of an upland meadow and upland forests with a tributary of South Johnson Creek dividing the habitats. Volunteers interested in adopting a portion of this site can get involved with trail maintenance, invasive plant maintenance and litter removal. This park makes a great adoption site for individuals or groups who would like to adopt a small chunk of the natural areas.

The opportunities are endless. All you need to provide is the enthusiasm. Give us a call or e-mail and we'll work with you and/or your group to set up your Adopt-A-Park partnership. Contact Melissa Marcum at (503) 629-6305, ext. 2953 or mmarcum@thprd.org.
