Public feedback sought for ADA Access Audit
THPRD has begun an American Disabilities Act (ADA) Access Audit and Transition plan, which will advance the district’s vision by removing barriers to participation for guests with disabilities.
An audit of 20 indoor recreation facilities, 98 park sites, 12 community gardens and four regional trails is underway to help THPRD identify common barriers -- including steep slopes, hard-to-open doors, and drinking fountains inaccessible to guests in wheelchairs – that hinder the participation and enjoyment of THPRD activities for an estimated 20 percent of the population.
Over the next nine months, THPRD will document existing conditions, establish improvement priorities and develop a plan that establishes a timeline for the necessary improvements identified by the ongoing audit.
Public feedback is an essential element of our Access Audit. If you have comments or concerns related to THPRD’s ADA access – or lack thereof – at any THPRD site, we’d love to hear from you.
Please email Lisa Novak, THPRD’s superintendent of programs and special activities, at lnovak@thprd.org with your comments.
