Play area at West Sylvan Park to reopen this summer
The Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District has concluded its public feedback and survey period for the West Sylvan Park play equipment.
In March, THPRD asked neighbors and other park users to complete a brief survey about park usage; 58 people responded. This information was gathered to help THPRD determine how to proceed with safety improvements at the park and to provide input for future development at a THPRD-owned property nearby.
Survey results showed strong support for investing in the current play structure to ensure the neighborhood has an option for younger children. Therefore, THPRD plans to invest in the repairs and reopen the play equipment this summer.
THPRD and Portland Public Schools (PPS) are working together to solve on-site drainage concerns and are also in the process of renewing an intergovernmental agreement for maintenance and upkeep of the park.
The survey also showed public interest in the development of the THPRD-owned property directly east of West Sylvan Middle School. This property is four to five years away from development, which will include public outreach efforts to determine park design and amenities.
Once the planning process for the new park begins, THPRD will re-engage the community to determine the future of the play equipment at the PPS-owned property at West Sylvan Park.
