Project Summary & Public Benefits

The safety of our patrons is one of THPRD's highest concerns. That's why passage of the 2008 bond measure was so important - it allowed the district to attend to important maintenance work and structural upgrades at a number of facilities.

Work at the Beaverton Swim Center is being done in two phases to bring the building up to current safety and earthquake standards.

Phase I occurred in 2013, when the first seismic upgrades were completed. Also in this first phase, the entire interior and exterior of the building was painted, which included brightening the pool area considerably by changing the ceiling color from brown to white. Other work included resurfacing the pool tank, replacing water heaters, and piping and upgrading the roof.

Additional seismic upgrades will occur in Phase II, when two new shear walls will be added adjacent to the front doors to support the entry canopy should an earthquake occur. Phase II consturction will begin in summer 2015.
